Artist Displacement Prevention Grant

Project Overview

Vital Arts is excited to announce the second round of the Artist Displacement Prevention Grant (ADPG), a vital initiative aimed at addressing the issue of artist displacement in the Bay Area. This program will provide five need-based grants of $2,500 each, which will be distributed at the end of January 2025. The ADPG prioritizes historically marginalized artists to tackle one of our most pressing challenges: housing.

Please note, this is not an artistic production grant, and is for housing stabilization purposes only. Please see our resource page for artistic production grant opportunities. Please visit our grant eligibility page for more information.

The Artist Displacement Prevention Grant offers emergency assistance to artists facing eviction, significant rent increases, or homelessness. We work closely with local artists and arts organizers to ensure that resources are distributed fairly to those most in need. Vital Arts is also dedicated to providing technical assistance to applicants, helping them navigate housing challenges. We believe that these emergency funds will not only stabilize struggling artists but also support our effort to prioritize the most vulnerable members of our community.

Our organization is dedicated to supporting artists facing displacement in the Bay Area. We believe that by providing immediate assistance to stabilize their housing, we can foster stronger connections within the arts community and raise awareness about the housing crisis that has historically impacted this underserved workforce.

For this second round of funding Vital Arts will offer five grants of $2,500 each to residents of Alameda County, and will be prioritizing Black, Indigenous, and other artists of color. While we plan to expand this program in the future, we currently welcome feedback and advice from our community. If you have any questions or comments, please contact us at sharmi@vitalarts.org.

Please Note: This grant is not a project-based grant. For this upcoming second round, we will only be providing awards to five grantees due to limited capacity. However, if the program proves successful, we aim to increase the funding amount, expand to more regions, and support more artists. We understand that $2,500 alone is not enough to prevent displacement, but we are confident that this amount can serve as a meaningful step toward stability.

The information you provide in your application will be kept confidential and may be used to secure additional funding for the program. We welcome your feedback and encourage you to reach out to sharmi@vitalarts.org with any questions or comments.

Application Review

Vital Arts works with two community panelists, who make decisions based on criteria, urgency of need, and availability. Unfortunately, the need is far greater than what we are able to provide, but we encourage applicants who do not receive funds this round to reapply for the next round.
